Piyava Gojju | Traditional Recipe | Breakfast Dip

Piyava Gojju
Breakfast dip ready in 10 minutes.
A very simple dish that could go along with dosa, idli, undi or with pej(steamed rice). Do try this aromatic traditional gojju made from onion. This dish is very easy to make with minimum ingredients onion, tamarind, chilly and coconut oil.

Serves- 4 people

Ingredients

  1. Onion - 2 medium
  2. Tamarind - small lemon sized
  3. Fried red chilly - 3 (less spice)
  4. Coconut oil - 4 to 6 tsp
  5. Salt as per taste
  6. Water half a cup

Method

  1. Fry red chilly in little oil for a minute or till it puffs up. Allow it to cool down.
  2. Crush the fried chilly with your hands or with a mortar pestle. Transfer it to a bowl.
  3. To the same bowl add chopped onion, salt as per taste, tamarind and mash them together nicely with your hands for 2 to 3 minutes.(If required soak the tamarind).
  4. Pour coconut oil and mix well with spoon or hand.
  5. Ready to serve with hot steamed rice or with idli, undi, dosa.
