Charmuri: A Flavorful Puffed Rice Snack


Charmuri

Charmuri, a delightful snack made from puffed rice, holds a special place in the hearts of food lovers across the globe. Traditionally, charmuri is mixed with an array of fresh and flavorful ingredients. Chopped onion, tomatoes, and coriander leaves add a burst of freshness, while roasted peanuts bring a delightful crunch. A sprinkle of chaat masala and a dash of lemon juice elevate the flavors, creating a harmonious blend that dances on the palate.

Serves - 3 people

Ingredients

  1. Puffed rice preparation ingredients
    1. Puffed rice - 60 gram
    2. Kashmiri chilly powder - 1 tsp
    3. Salt - ½ tsp
    4. Coconut oil - 2 tbsp
  2. Vegetable ingredients
    1. Grated beetroot - 20 gram
    2. Grated carrot - 20 gram
    3. Chopped onion - 20 gram
    4. Chopped tomato - 20 gram
    5. Grated raw mango - 40 gram
    6. Lemon juice - 1to2 tbsp
    7. Minced coriander leaves - 2 tbsp
  3. Spices ingredients(you can also add sambar powder only)
    1. Turmeric powder - a pinch
    2. Garam masala powder - ¼ tsp
    3. Chilli powder - ¼ tsp
    4. Sambar powder - ¼ tsp(optional)
  4. Salt powder - ¼  tsp
  5. Roasted peanut - 20 gram

Method

  1. In a thick bottomed pan add in 60 gram puffed rice, 1 tsp kashmiri chilly powder, ½ tsp salt powder, 2 tbsp coconut oil and mix well.
  2. On low flame, saute for 3-5 min. Keep aside and allow it to cool down.
  3. In a vessel add in all vegetable ingredients, spices ingredients and salt powder as mentioned above. Mix well. Add in the puffed rice, roasted peanut and mix well.
  4. Serve within 5 min to avoid softening of puffed rice.
