Horse Gram Salad |
Kulith Salad, also known as Kulitha Kismuri in Konkani, is a wholesome and flavorful horse gram salad made Konkani Style. It's a light, nutritious dish made using boiled horse gram, freshly grated coconut, finely chopped onions, green chillies, and a simple tempering of mustard seeds, curry leaves and asafoetida powder.

Ingredients:
- Horse gram - 90 gram (check first paragraph)
- Grated coconut - 1 ladle
- Green chili - 1
- Salt - 1 tsp
- Lemon juice - 2 tbsp
- Salt for horse gram - ¼ tsp
- Onion - 1 medium
- Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp
- Oil - 1 tsp
- Mustard seeds - ¼ tsp
- Curry leaves - 1 sprig
- Asafoetida powder - ¼ tsp
Method:
- I had soaked 180 gram of horse gram for 4-6 hours in water. Rinsed it and added it in pressure cooker with enough water till it soaks well. On medium flame pressure cooked for 5-6 whistles. Drained the water and used it to make stew. Divided the cooked horse gram in half. Now let's start with salad.
- In a bowl add the other half of the cooked horse gram (90 gram) and keep it aside.
- In a mortar and pestle, add 1 ladle grated coconut, 1 green chili, 1 tsp salt and pound it to coarse paste. Transfer it to horse gram bowl. Add 2 tsp lemon juice or tamarind pulp. Add ¼ tsp salt, 1 medium chopped onion, 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves and mix well.
- For tempering, add 1 tbsp oil in a pan, ¼ tsp mustard seeds, 1 sprig curry leaves, ¼ tsp asafoetida powder. Temper it and mix well. Ready to serve with rice.
