Tomato Rice Recipe | Easy South Indian Red Rice Recipe for Lunch or Breakfast

Tomato Rice (Red Rice)
Tomato Rice, also known as Red Rice, is a quick and flavorful South Indian style recipe made with raw rice, onion, tomato, and aromatic spices. This dish is perfect for lunch, tiffin boxes, or even a light dinner. With its vibrant red color, tangy tomato flavor, and subtle spiciness, this easy one-pot rice recipe is loved by both kids and adults.
This tomato rice takes me back to my school days when we used to pack it in our tiffin boxes. The taste always reminds me of home-cooked comfort food. In our family, we often make this recipe on busy mornings because it is quick, filing, and pairs well with simple sides.

In this recipe, rice is cooked with sautéed onions, ripe tomatoes, and a blend of spices like Kashmiri chili powder, turmeric, and garam masala. The use of jeera rice (jeeraga samba rice) enhances the aroma and taste, making it different from regular tomato pulao. Whether served with papad, raita, or pickle, this tomato rice recipe is wholesome, comforting, and can be prepared in just 30 minutes. It’s a perfect choice for busy mornings, travel food, or a nostalgic tiffin meal.
