Kirlaile Mooga Usli | Green Gram Usli - Amchi Vasari

Mooga Usli
Phova Chutney and Mooga Usli
Mooga Usli is a simple and nutritious Konkani dish made with sprouted green gram (moong/muga).

Serves - 3

Ingredients

  1. Green gram - 100 gram
  2. Water to soak
  3. Oil - 2 to 3 tbsp
  4. Mustard seeds - ½ tsp
  5. Green chilli - 2
  6. Byadgi chilli - 2
  7. Curry leaves - 1 sprig
  8. Asafoetida powder - ¼ tsp
  9. Salt - ½ tbsp
  10. Water - 2 cups to cook
  11. Jaggery - 1 small piece (optional)
  12. Grated coconut - 3 tbsp

Method

  1. Soak 100 gram green gram in water for 5-6 hours. Wash and drain the water. Keep the soaked green gram hanged in clean cotton cloth or place it in a strainer close lid for 8-10 hours to sprout in a warm place. (for long sprouts keep for a day)
  2. In a pan, add oil, mustard seeds, green chilli, red chilli, curry leaves, asafoetida powder mix well.
  3. Add the sprouted green gram, salt as per taste, 2 cups water mix well. Close lid and cook till soft. This takes 20-30 minutes.(You can also pressure cook the sprouted green gram in a strainer without adding water for 1 whistles on medium flame).
  4. Add fresh grated coconut mix well and cook for a minute. Ready to serve.
