Phova chutney
Mooga usli and Phova chutney
Phova Chutney is a traditional Konkani dish made using beaten rice(flat thin) and coconut.

Serves - 3

Ingredients

  1. Oil - 1 tsp
  2. Byadgi chilli - 1
  3. Cumin seeds - ½ tbsp
  4. Mustard seeds - ¼ tsp (optional)
  5. Curry leaves - 1 sprig
  6. Grated coconut - 1½ fistful
  7. Salt - a pinch
  8. Flattened thin rice(beaten rice) - 40 gram

Method

  1. Add few drops of oil in a pan. Fry red chilli for a minute on low flame. Add coriander seeds, cumin seeds, mustard seeds fry till aromatic. Then add 1 curry leaves fry for few seconds and turn the flame off. Allow it to cool down.
  2. In a mixer grinder, add grated coconut, jaggery and above fried spices, pinch of salt and grind roughly for 5 seconds.
  3. Add the mixture in a bowl, add flattened thin rice and mix well.
  4. If you want soft phova chutney squeeze while mixing. You can also add some more coconut for soft phova chutney.
  5. Ready to serve.
